The Joy Of Choosing Baby Nursery Themes!

When you are expecting a baby, there is always a flurry of activity in your home. Parents often love the “nesting” preparation required before bringing their beloved infant home. They take great care when deciding how to decorate a room for their newborn. They will often spend hours choosing their favorites among the countless themes and nursery ideas surrounding them in stores or online.

When you’re decorating a nursery for your newborn, you should remember that you’re designing the room with colors and objects that appeal to you. After all, you will be spending a lot of time in here, and family and friends will of course see how you decorated the room. Baby won't mind how it's decorated, simply because they don't have any concept of what a room is, let alone judging you based on what Martha Stewart can do! However, because your little one will be spending so much time in this room, there are a few styles to help them develop. For instance, bright and stimulating colors will give them something to focus on. When you decorate your nursery, make sure the room is very safe, welcoming and interesting for a developing young mind.

Crib Safety!

Safety of your baby is your prime responsibility when you decide on the décor. Care should be taken when choosing furniture, furnishings and accessories. Make sure the slats or rods of the crib aren’t set too wide apart or your baby may slip and fall. Alternatively, if they're too close together, limbs could get caught between. Two and three eighth inches is the standard, or about the width of a soda can.

All baby cribs must contain a tight, proper fitting mattresses to prevent suffocation hazards. The corner posts should also be level with the railings so clothing won’t become hooked on it. Electrical switches, plugs or sockets should be either placed above baby’s reach or fitted with child-safe devices. Floor-length curtains, drapes or blinds with long pull-cords are dangerous in the nursery as they could suffocate or entangle your child. You can buy devices to neatly tuck them out of harm's way.

Comfortable and Welcoming!

Nurseries should be painted in pleasing color schemes that are suitable for both genders and all ages. Recommended choices include light yellow, cream or lilac shades. Parents can add small colorful decorations and furnishings that can be changed often to add some life to the room. This also allows you to add or remove items quickly and easily. Applying colorful stick-on borders is another great option. They will add drama to the room and complement your baby furnishings, curtains, baby pictures and dressers. You can also easily remove them. Remember, your tiny newborn will become a child before you know it, with their own ideas on how their room should look!

Stimulating and Developing Your Infant's Intellect!

A child’s cognitive development takes place during the first years. Babies need interesting objects to keep them occupied while they’re lying awake in their crib. You can hang a mobile or wind chimes over the crib. Brightly colored linen and pictures will also stimulate your baby’s visual and aural senses.

Different themes and motifs painted on either the walls or the furniture can make a room appear fresh and cheery. You can accomplish this using wallpaper or paint and stencils. The most popular neutral themes for decorating a nursery include forests, animals, gardens, sea life, cute teddy bears, dainty bugs and bees and the sky, complete with rainbow, sun, moon and stars. Themes for boys often include cars & trucks, cowboys or western items, sailors and boats, sports and popular characters. A girl’s room is usually painted in pink with flowers, fairies, fairytale characters and mermaids.

Parents today are fortunate that there is no lack of good nursery options. You simply have to investigate your suppliers and compare costs. Thanks to the numerous online shops currently available, you can often place an order with the simple click of a button. If you’re physically or artistically inclined, you can paint your baby’s nursery yourself. This will give you a great sense of pride. It will also intensify the thrill of anticipating baby’s arrival!
