Baby Bike Trailers Are Joy Rides For Kids!
Cycling and jogging enthusiasts with children have never had it so good. Special baby bike trailers allow you to take your kids with you wherever you cycle. Attaching a self-contained carrier to your bicycle turns outdoor fitness activities into great family fun time!
Experienced parents will vouch for the enjoyment children experience when using a bike trailer. With a large area to sit in, food, bottles and toys can be included within to keep them busy, if they don’t feel like peering out the screened window openings. Also, many trailers will allow for two children with a combined weight of up to 100 pounds.
Convertible Bike Trailers!
Active parents who love running and biking can easily convert a special jogging stroller into a bike trailer with minimal effort. In the past, most models required a separately purchased conversion kit. This can be a little cumbersome, as you would have to lug along the required tools to switch from one mode to another.
Fortunately, new trailers on the market require no kits and no tools. The transition is made possible with a few simple adjustments using only your hand, a wheel and a self-storing tow arm. The front wheel fork folds back, and the stroller wheels can be tucked into a pocket located in the back of the trailer. Some bike trailer strollers even utilize quick fold technology. They fold up with a simple click, and their lift and frame fold flat (as small as 34" x 32" x 9") to simplify transportation and storage.
Safety Concern for Infants!
Before making any purchases, you need to consider the important aspect of bike safety. Infants are unable to support their head until they are three months old, and with the added weight of a helmet and the inevitable bumps on the bike path, you shouldn’t use a carrier until they are at least a year old. As for a carrier itself, safety standards include padded three or five-point harness seats. The cushy seats are designed to maintain airflow and keep the inside of the trailer cool. They recline slightly and include padded, adjustable shoulder straps for even greater safety and comfort. Also, look for a towing arm that has a ball and socket joint. If the bike falls over, the trailer won’t tip with it.
Bike Trailer Features!
Most child bike trailers can seat one or two passengers in the roomy trailer cockpit. Large mesh windows provide kids with both ventilation and an unobstructed view on warm days. The zip-up tinted side windows can be closed in poor weather. Most trailers also include a large storage bag that can be removed and carried as a shoulder bag or a child’s backpack. There is also an adjustable sunscreen in the front for summer days and a rain cover to keep the front of the cockpit dry. Many manufacturers have even included a helmet pocket where you can conveniently store your approved safety helmets.
Loading up the van for a short trip to the park doesn’t make much sense – not only do you have to contend with traffic and find parking, but loading and unloading could take longer than relaxing in the park itself! Using a bicycle and a trailer with your child, you can make your Sunday ride much more active, worthwhile and enjoyable. After all, getting there and back is half the experience.
